Just received a phone call about this little water painting by Daniel Adel called “Source No. 5.” It was featured in our last Small Works Exhibition in September, and it’s the first water painting we’ve had from Adel since 2007. He has this crazy fascination with the movement of the wind and water off the coast of the south of France. According to Adel, he will spend hours photographing water— hundred upon hundreds of images. Then return to the studio and study the photos in sequence to understand the pattern of movement. Rather than using one photo as reference, he uses a wealth of images to anticipate the way the water moves. This guy is brilliant, and probably a little crazy—- either way, it makes for some amazing work.Daniel Adel, “Source No. 5,” Oil on Panel, 11” x 14”
